Effect of Temperature and Humidity Conditions on Rooting and Sprouting of Garlic

Abstract
In order to study the effect of temperature and humidity conditions on rooting and sprouting of garlic, this experiment was carried out on several different ecotypes. By different response of root and leaf growth in tested cultivars on temperature, they were classified into three groups such as sensitive (southern ecotypes), non-sensitive (northern ecotypes), and intermediated types. Temperature response on rooting and sprouting were slightly changed according to the growth stage (dormant stage) of bulbs, but the cptimum temperature was ranged from 10¡É to 15¡É for root growth and from 15¡É to 20¡É for leaf growth. There was no rooting in dry condition without relation to temperature treatments, but leaf growth was accelerated in conditions of higher temp. (25¡É) and humidity than lower temp. (10¡É) and dry soil. Therefore it was assumed that leaf growth was more influenced by temperature than humidity, and root growth was vice versa.
